Jacob,

The 2Ghz box is probably a bit too slow for HD, unless you're using Xvmc. If it's really difficult to migrate the XP box to your 2Ghz processor, try the Geforce enabling Xvmc and see how that works out. There are plenty of HD clips out there you can download & check out.

I have a HD Homerun. I like it... works great, easy to set up, etc etc. There are plenty of people that have had a lot of luck with the pcHDTV cards.

As for the 16:9 resolution... I can't say for sure, since I use Xfce for my backend/frontend (mythbuntu), but I just selected "generic LCD monitor 16:9" and it worked great for my plasma connected via the RGB port. here's the relevant section of the

I ended up trying to do it with the Dell machine and the Intel onboard video card. It works (though I still don't have an HD tuner card, so everything I have is still SD. It works, but I think the video quality is quite lacking. I think I'm gonna try the AMD64 3500+ and GeForce 6800GS.

One thing I noticed with the Intel card was that I could only specify typical monitor resolutions (eg, 1024x768) in KDE. Is this a normal restriction in KDE, or was it because the Intel video card didn't support 16:9 type resolutions? If it's the former, will the new Nvidia card work better?
