I have tried to completely remove myth packages before, when trying to reinstall mythfrontend, and I noticed that my settings were still there when I reinstalled (like my ip addresses, passwords, etc). I had to show hidden files in my /home/josh folder and then I noticed a .mythtv folder that remained after doing a "complete removal" from synaptic. I did another complete removal, and then deleted these files, and I was able to do a "clean" reinstall. It worked for me. I can't see this whole thread (I was away from email all weekend, so I deleted 88 emails form this list last night), so if my advice is totally off base, I apologize.
