I got my first HDTV (Sony Grand Wega 3LCD 55) this week. Right now mythtv is going out my FX-5200 through s-video (yeah, looks like crap) and I will be getting an DVI to HDMI cable this weekend.

I would like to know what to expect in terms of upgrading the config, is it as simple as just changing something in
Xorg.conf?

Yep, it's pretty easy. If you've explicitly specified TV output, you'll want to disable that, of course. You'll probably need to add 'Option "UseEdidDpi" "FALSE"' to the device section in
xorg.conf. If you don't, the DisplaySize line will be ignored, and you'll end up with very tiny fonts. You'll also want to specify the "1280x720" mode as your default mode.

Carl Fongheiser
