This weekend I saw my first major problem with my MythTV setup in over six months. One of the frontends lost the connection to the back end. I logged on to the backend machine and restarted the backend process. But the frontends still couldn't connect. The backend log didn't show any problems. The backend was running. I tried stopping/restarting mysql and mythbackend many times and restarted the backend computer but the frontends still couldn't connect. Eventually I reset (unplugged & plugged back in) my two HDhomeruns. Once I did that and restarted mythbackend the frontends were able to connect and everything was rosy.

I assume one of the HDhomeruns was locked up and not responding correctly and that was causing the backend to not respond. This looks like a minor problem. But it was very difficult to diagnose because the backend log didn't say anything bad and mythbackend kept running.
