the recordings are in a different location, /var/lib/mythtv/recordings on the new system, /video/recordings on the old. i tried making a /video/recordings directory on the new system and then put symbolic links to the old files there, that didn't work. the permissions on the old files are the same as the permissions on the new recordings that do play.
