I have an SA3250HD that I haven't tried to do anything with
yet. I'm at work at the moment and plan on playing around
with it when I get home.
But just browsing the past threads about this STB has lead to
a few unanswered questions. Some threads seem to contradict
each other, so maybe someone can clear this up for me:
1) Do I still need an IR blaster to change channels or does
this work over firewire now?
2) Will I be able to record both SD and HD channels?
If it helps any my provider is Charter Communications, DFW
Texas. I have no idea of the STB's firmware version or if the
firewire port is even activated, plan to find out tonight ;-)

I don't have a SA3250 but I do have two Motorola 6200s. I only have had
success with Firewire capture using a build of MythTV from Atrpms bleeding.
The older version was unstable with Firewire. (I see Myth sending bus resets
every so often whereas the older version didn't)
If you don't have success with .20, I highly recommend you try the latest
from bleeding.

Thanks Brian,
I guess I should have added which version of myth I'm running.
Currently I'm running FC6 using the standard ATrpms 0.20.1-fixes. I
could probably switch to the bleeding fairly easy, never tried, but
I'm assuming I just enable the repo and do a yum update. I'll wait and
see what kind of luck I have with the stable before I try that, but
thanks for the info.

Just be aware that going from stable to bleeding is easy however going
back is not so easy. Be sure to back up your database before starting to
play so you can wipe and restore to get back to where you are now.
Okay, update to my situation, I've got my SA3250HD all hooked up. I
pretty much followed the wiki for Firewire, also glancing at Jarod's
howto from time to time. My initial testing was done with .20-fixes
still in place but I later updated to SVN to see if it would resolve my
issue. Basically I can capture a stream just fine using test-mpeg2, I
can also actually watch and record from the firewire through Myth but I
have to manually change the channel using the remote first. All in all
its going fairly smooth, I believe my only problem left is changing
channels through the 1394.

Both before and after the SVN update when I tried to change channels
the cable box would flash numbers and eventually ends up at various
random channels. My initial test were using myth's internal changer,
then I compiled the sa3250ch app and set everything up for the external
app, however my results are basically the same, flashing numbers and no
channel lock.

I've spent the past day or so going over all the old SA3250HD threads
on this list but have yet to find a solution to this. However, Matt
posted a patch to the sa3250ch app that I was unable to apply to the .c
file I found in my contrib directory, I get a 'malformed patch' error
on line 6. I'm not a programmer and have no idea if I'm doing something
wrong in the patch process or if maybe his patch is already in the
contrib. To apply the patch I just copied and pasted the lines from his
email to a file called sa3250ch.patch then ran "patch -p0 <
sa3250ch.patch".

Anywho, if someone could correct that process for me, or maybe some
other suggestion I'd be grateful. I'll keep trying things and post my
results.

Oh, and my VendorID is already listed in the sa3250ch.c file.

Thanks
