Don't remember where I got it from, but they are readily available. I had to place a resistor or two inside the 9 pin hood and supply power, which I just use an old wall wart I had. It has been awhile so I don't know the exact details of what I put in the shell, but I know it was not much. Once that was working, it was just a matter of configuring LIRC to use a serial port and TX.
