hi,

I am an experienced developer on windows, and a newbie to linux. I am building
a linux pvr, a project which is proving a bit troublesome.
I have followed
the instructions on the mythtvology (thanks Jarod), and I have become stuck in a
few places. I am fairly sure that my problems will be configuration (or
lack of it), hence the posting here.

I am posting this in the hopes that
one of you experts can help with some or all of them.

I have two tv
cards, a pvr150 and a nova-s, running onto a leadtek? board w/ x86_64 processor
and an nvidia 7950 card.

I have successfully upgraded to the latest
kernel (2895) and installed the ndivia driver (from a .run downloaded from their
site), lirc, alsa, and ivtv.

See the output D below from the
initialisation of ivtv.

Problems:

1. Lirc: when I try to start
the lircd service, I get no response (no OK's as mentioned) and no messages in
/var/log/messages. When I tried /usr/bin/irw it returned "connect: No such
file or directory". Also, when I use mplayer to test the ivtv mpg I get a
failure message (though is this just because we didn't bother configuring it as
it is just a temporary test setup for the tuner?). It looks OK in the ivtv
initialisation.

2. I can't run mplayer with -vo xv. When I do, it
fails with the message in output A below. When I run myth and watch tv,
the output B shows that there is also a problem initialising xvideo.
Is
xvideo required for mythtv or can I run in another mode? I switched to
opengl but that only seems to be the menu system - live video is still in
xvideo. This appears to be a driver issue. Any clues on finding the
fault?

3. Last time, I successfully tested the dvb card using
"/usr/bin/dvbstream -f 1371 -s 22500 -p v -o 1005 1105 | mplayer -vo gl2 -dr -fs
-", but when I ran mythtv setup it would not scan the channels, despite me
putting in settings that I was sure were correct (LNB freq. = 11300, TVNZ=
12483000 Vertical SR=22500000). The signal was showing fine, but the scan
never left 3% and eventually timed out. I also tried manually creating the
channels.conf using the scan utility, but this resulted in a blank screen when
selecting those channels.

Any comments or help would be
appreciated.

Regards,

Richard Horton.

Output A -
