I tried to get it working with my 8300HD. The best I could do was about 2-3 seconds worth of recording right after changing channels manually. This was using the test-mpeg utility. You should be able to trade in you 8300HD for a 3250 or 4200, which DO work.

I've search the wiki, gossamer and googled... hoping someone could
answer a simple question (reason I'm asking is I would need to buy a
firewire adaptor or new motherboard for my mythbox):

Can I use firewire to capture TV from the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD
