The problem is that once you go unmasked like this it's very hard to go back to stable without massive recompile. One of the main arguments people cite against Gentoo is the frequency of compiling. But if you stick with stable, it's really not that bad. Anyway... I'm monologing...

This will cache the metadata after each sync so that you can run esearch which is the same as emerge -s but instant.
