I think I've solved this now. I don't know if it's anything to do with the fact that I've upgraded to 0.20-fixes, but I've noticed the internal player doesn't show the menu selection, but if I go to the OSD menu, then select DVD Root Menu, the menu reloads with the visible menu selection.
