Maybe this has already been asked (though I didn't see it) but have you tried using Bob deinterlacing? I'm unable to get playback to be anything close to smooth unless Bob is enabled. (and believe me, I've tried virtually everything) With Bob enabled, even scrolling tickers are smooth.

<br>mobo chipset are you using? If it's a VIA chipset you may be a victim<br>of the infamous IVTV/DMA problems that some of those early boards<br>had. Unfortunately, if that's the problem, I have no solution to<br>offer other than replacement.
