<div>Well after much monkeying with the permisions, I give-up. As best
I can tell mythtv-setup can only be successfully run as root. Any other
user appears to be denied access to the video capture card. In my case
a pcHDTV HD3000.<br>

However, allowing a non-root user to operate Mythtv was not difficult.
In my case, I needed to make sure that the current user had access to
the directory assigned under mythtv-setup > General >"directory
to hold recordings." ALSO I needed to assure that the cx88_dvb
module was loaded. (It does not load by default -- yet). <br>

I have no quams with the administrative tasks of Mythtv being limited
to the root user. It probably saves the household sysadmin a lot of
headaches. I'm just curious as to how this is accomplished by the good
folks at Mythtv. I thought it was every linux users right to
log-on as root and screw-up their machine in any fashion they choose.<br>
<br>
I do have some difficulties with operating Mythtv as root. Isn't that
against the first rule of linux -- "Thou shalt not operate the machine
as root -- unless very necessary."<br>
