It is not possible to use mythtv *without*
X, as this is what drives the graphics!

However, it *is* possible to run 2 separate
X sessions on the one video card (am doing this on ATI video card on a
laptop, also on an Nvidia card on my server).
One X session runs mythtv out of the
TV port on the graphics card, the other X session runs the CRT as normal.
I can currently slide my mouse to the TV screen, click to focus on
Mythtv, control mythtv, and slide it back to my normal Gnome X session,
and continue to work as normal, whil mythtv plays.

It should be possible to run mythtv
via the IR and never have to slide the mouse onto the TV screen. I'll
know in a week or so as I make my IR work.
I have also made mythtv start automatically
when X starts. Just add a file to /etc/X11/Xsession.d which starts
mythfrontend in background, pointed to the 2nd screen (set DISPLAY=:0.1).
My file is called s95mythfrontend. Anyway, I'll put something
into the WIKI about this. It seems to work OK for me (just got it
working this morning).
