You can go on about how Felix has set up his system wrong and how he is
using MythTV wrong but the fact remains there IS a problem with the
channel change delay for some people and not for others. And some
people like to flick between channels on MythTV, I am one of them. I
will not be told how to use my HTPC. The fact is that Live TV IS a
part of MythTV, it is an important feature for alot of people as is
recording, mythmusic, mythweather etc.

I have a combined FE/BE with a DVB PCI card. My channel changing takes
ten seconds. I really like MythTV but there IS a problem with channel
change. It seems alot of people take offense when someone points out
possible bugs with this software. This is version 0.19 we all know
there are going to be bugs, it does not hurt to acknowledge them.
Telling people they are not using it properly because it is not the way
you use it is not the answer either.

I am wondering if the problem is due to locking onto the digital
signal?

I am also curious, can one of the devs tell us if the delay is an
intentional part of the buffer design?
If this is a bug then we just need to acknowledge this is a bug and
then look forward to a fix sometime in the future.
If it is not a bug but an intentional delay then it would be good to
know that too.

By the way nobody has mentioned that this problem may have been
improved in 0-19-fixes under SVN. I have seen posts around the net
saying this is so. I am not sure if this is correct but hope to find
out when I switch to it tonight.
The problem here is that Felix is using a slightly advanced DVR (The Philips
HDRW 720) and comparing it to a PVR (MythTV) and he's got it incorrectly
setup to make matters worse.
He could use browse - *IF* he had MythTV setup properly. But he refuses to
do this.
On a properly configured sweetly running system channel changing is around
3~4 seconds if that. That is one of the prices you currently have to pay to
have all the added MythTV functionality. *IF* you want to have your cake and
eat it; either find a better solution OR change MythTV so it can change
channels faster.
It is YOUR choice, do NOT impose YOUR DEMANDS on a COMMUNITY driven project.
