In reply to my last post:

When I reboot the system, starting the backend or TVTime no longer caused the sound from the TV card to be heard. So I assume that those commands did what they were meant to do.

I also did the following since the audio from the TV card is entering the onboard soundcard via the CD in connection:

# amixer -c1 set 'CD',0 100% 100% captur
Simple mixer control 'CD',0
Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined cswitch cswitch-joined cswitch-exclusive
Capture exclusive group: 0
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
Limits: Playback 0 - 31
Front Left: Playback 31 [100%] [off] Capture [on]
Front Right: Playback 31 [100%] [off] Capture [on]

I also did the following:

# aplay -D hw:1,0 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/test.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/test.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo

And I did hear the test wave.

I then went in to the frontend and changed the audio output device to ALSA:hw:1,0. However I still can't hear any sound when I select Watch TV.
