Hello all,

I've been trying to get my DVD drive to behave nicely and not spin up when playing DVDs.
I've used
hdparm -E1 /dev/hdc
eject -x 1 /dev/hdc
and even
cat current_speed:1 > /proc/ide/hdc/settings

... to no avail however. All the time the drive starts to spin up after a while (in 2 steps, I imagine to hear..)
I guess my drive is not responding to the speed commands. Maybe it is on the IDE interface, but it spins up anyways

My drive is a NEC DVD_RW ND-3520A
My question is: What drive are people using, and is it silent enough to be used as the primary dvd player.
Can it be speed controlled, and if yes how?
I'm looking preferably for a DVD re-writer

Regards,
