Once you sofmod the xbox, you will lose the ability to play xbox live games ( me thinks). However, you will not lose the ability to play normal games. Once you install linux on your xbox, you will are not required to have a linux dvd in the drive to run it (unless you want to). Of course, I am assuming that you are installing linux on a gamesave partition. I use my xbox primarily as a mythfrontend. However, when I get the urge to play xbox games, I just pop in a game CD in and start playing the xbox games and the carnage begins.
