Jumping in on a tangent here, but I am running 32 bit FC4
installation on an EM64T processor for a couple of reasons. First
of all, I couldn't my x86_64 install CDs to work. It took
me about 72 hours in front of the computer to get everything
installed. I believe the problems were due to bad memory (and a
incompatible power button header on the MB, and a lack of thermal
grease between processor and heatsink), but the install I finally got
to work was 32 bit.<br>
<br>
Anyhow, I now have my myth box up and running with an smp kernel on a
P4 630+. Jarod suggests in FC4 install guide that x86_64 is less
stable than 32bit, and I have not yet heard any potential benefits of
using x86_64 linux for a myth box.<br>
<br>
So then, might I see significantly faster transcode times were I
to switch to a 64 bit installation? The only transcoding I
am interested in is from DVD to mpeg4, if that somehow makes a
difference. <br>

After going through that nightmare<br><br><div><span class="gmail_quote">On 1/21/06, <b class="gmail_sendername">Brian Wood</b> <<a href="mailto:beww@beww.org">beww@beww.org</a>> wrote:</span><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="border-left: 1px solid rgb(204, 204, 204); margin: 0pt 0pt 0pt 0.8ex; padding-left: 1ex;">
