<div>Bare metal install of FC4 using Jarod's site. Never saw this in my FC3 load. When I transcode a DVD with xvid it runs about the normal length of time (Good = 3.5 hours for 2 hour DVD) and completes and all is well. Output AVI file is just fine. However when I take a look at my memory stats (free or top) I notice that 817MB of ram is being consumed and swap has 988K consumed. The only way to free it up I have found is to perform a shutdown. I had initially used Jarod's rcsysinit patch to get lirc working ok, but it was causing some module load errors on boot. Looking around in the system I noticed that after I transcoded a DVD my memory consumption would scale all the way to full and start swapping like crazy. I blew everything away (bare metal again) followed Jarod's site but added modprobe lirc_i2c and service lircd restart to
rc.local. All works much better (memory not filling up - but the transcode process is still not releasing what it used during the job). At least I am assuming it's transcode as my free is about 312MB prior to starting the job through the frontend. Anyone else seen this?
