Ok, i read section 6.2 again and this is what i get when i try
$ mysql -u root mythconverg
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

so i checked this file .mysql_history and get this

# cat .mysql_history
UPDATE user SET Password=PASSWORD('mypassword') WHERE user='root';
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

So then i try this.

mysql -u root -p 'mypassword' mythconverg

and i get this.
