Sorry, I forgot to mention that I did copy the /mythtv/configfiles/lircrc.example file to the myth user's .mythtv directory as lircrc.

When Myth starts, I do see in the system log that Myth is connecting to lirc successfully, however I am not running lirc 0.7pre4. I'm running 0.6.6.

Is the version of lirc the problem? When I downloaded it, I thought I was grabbing the newest version.

Thanks for your help,
Do you see any error messages when you start myth (such as 'cannot open socket')?
Are you running lirc 0.7pre4?

Subject: [mythtv-users] Trouble with LIRC and Myth
I bought an IR receiver from manoweb.com a few days ago, so I'm trying to get lirc and myth working, but am running into some trouble and I'm not real sure where to turn. I believe I have lirc working correctly because I can see that it is receiving codes from my remote. I installed lirc from source, and ran irrecord to set up my remote. I followed the documentation and also recompiled myth after enabling native lirc support in settings.pro.
If I run irw I can see my buttons being received by lirc, but Myth does nothing. I am also receiving one error when I run modprobe lirc_serial. Here it is:
/lib/modules/2.4.22-28mdk/kernel/3rdparty/lirc/lirc_serial.o.gz: init_module: Input/output error
modprobe: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.22-28mdk/kernel/3rdparty/lirc/lirc_serial.o.gz failed
Starting Linux Infrared Remote Control daemon: [ OK ]
I also get this in the log:
Apr 17 10:44:41 darthmaul kernel: lirc_serial: auto-detected active low receiver
Apr 17 10:44:41 darthmaul kernel: _devfs_append_entry(serial): dir: "lirc" is not a directory
Apr 17 10:44:41 darthmaul kernel: devfs_register(lirc/serial): could not append to parent, err: -20

Apr 17 10:44:42 darthmaul lircd: lircd startup succeeded
I'm not sure what this stuff about dev_fs is. I have /dev/lirc, /dev/lircd, and /dev/lircmd and that's all. I set the following in /etc/sysconf/lircd:
DRIVER=default
HWMOD=lirc_serial
# with devfs enabled -> not sure what this is
#DEVICE=/dev/lirc/0
# without devfs -> not sure what this is
DEVICE=/dev/lirc
COM_PORT=/dev/ttyS0
I have no prior experience with lirc, so I'm not sure what to look at or how to get rid of the problems above. I can't tell because of these errors if the problem is with lirc or with Myth not using lirc for some reason.
I appreciate anybody's help or advice or pointers.
Thank you,
