Sorry, I signed up and posted on the Lirc list but it seems like a very quiet place.

Anyway, this is more for a reality check then troubleshooting.

1-Do I need to have IRDA support turned on in the kernel? I thought it was not to be enabled, then I saw another site that said yes, just the initial support.

2-I have both a blaster/transmitter and a remote. I'm assuming most people do. I ran the ./configure / install first for my blaster. That inserted two modules, lirc_dev and lirc_sir and then make clean (just in case) and did a /configure and insall for the remote (Hauppague).

Contrary to the myth doc I went with Lirc cvs and chose the option for the remote with i2c which is enabled in my kernel (core, bitbanging).

3-Until I ran /usr/local/sbin/lircd there was no /dev entry. I'm assuming that is normal, at least till I intialize my init script for bootup.

4-Does it sound like I'm on the right track here?

Thanks
