And there have been (for well over a decade) a
thought experiment to move the FE to using the
services API which would (in theory, if the
developers understood proper API versioning)
a BE schema independent presentation app.
Right now, there are only a few I am aware of
(including an android TV app :-)).

Anyone who wishes to create an alternative
presentation app is free to do so.
