I am confused about this. How are you connecting the C71KW-400 to MythTV?

As far as I know the C71KW-400 is an android TV device and must be
connected to MythTV using a HDMI capture card. I have not used FREEBOX
but I believe FREEBOX is only used for when MythTV gets free content
directly from the internet without any  C71KW-400 or similar device
needed. Surely FREEBOX cannot be used with DirecTV?

In order to connect an android device to MythTV you need an HDMI capture
device. You need to define it in MythTV as an external recorder and
supply appropriate capture scripts. see
https://github.com/bennettpeter/MythTV-V4L2Capture.
