As mentioned, one will be sites-enabled. (digs around in mushed memories and probably gets the wrong thing …) a2site[en|dis] creates/removes symlinks from sites-enabled to the files in sites-disabled - thus making it easy to remove a site without removing it’s config file.
There’s a similar thing with modules.
