I look at rockpi debian image that does boot

where there are lots of vectors and no  partition table at 0x100

> Indeed they're complicated - trying radaxa debian image (which boots SD and NVME via emc), armbian which boots SD with root on NVME, ubuntu which boots SD with root SD)
