fwiw, i had same problems with 0 byte files. i use sdjson not sqlite
version. now i get good results or did last night. i don't use myth, i
have a systemd timer service set up to run a simple script calling
mythfilldatabase daily.

i use arch linux user repo xmltv package and i manually added the one
line to the source that gary b. provided in his pull request.

for just troubleshooting i believe its better to just run the command
from a terminal with a short amount of days and specify output to a
test xml file so you can get more information.
