There may be a permissions problem writing that log then, or for some reason system logging has been turned off. 

Are you using Ubuntu and the mythtv fixes ppa for ubuntu? What version mythtv,  And has it been updated recently? 

You really need to get the logs going again to see why it is in error to be able to fix it.
