Here are the installed Firewire modules:

# lsmod | grep -i wire
firewire_ohci          49152  0
firewire_core          77824  1 firewire_ohci
crc_itu_t              16384  1 firewire_core

This is with a 5.15.0-40-generic kernel and an Ubuntu 22 LTS distro.

As for recompiling with different firewire_ohci options: Pardon my
ignorance, but are you talking about recompiling the kernel? Or a
firewire module? Or something else?

Yes. Another quirk of this new STB is that it powers off by itself after
some interval of inactivity, which is its own problem for use with
MythTV. When I powered it back on plugreport only sees Node 0:

# plugreport
Host Adapter 0
==============

Node 0 GUID 0x00080008000802e5
------------------------------
libiec61883 error: error reading oMPR
libiec61883 error: error reading iMPR
