Thanks Glen and Gary for your responses. I am also a Spectrum customer
in the LA area.

Unplugging/replugging the Firewire cable on the Arris box did produce
dmesg output:

[34408.459191] usb 1-2: USB disconnect, device number 3
[34408.459352] hdpvr 1-2:1.0: device video0 disconnected
[34411.893933] usb 3-2: new full-speed USB device number 3 using ohci-pci
[34412.053919] usb 3-2: device descriptor read/64, error -62
[34414.401934] usb 1-2: new high-speed USB device number 5 using ehci-pci
[34414.586043] usb 1-2: New USB device found, idVendor=2040,

[34414.586060] usb 1-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2,
SerialNumber=3
[34414.586068] usb 1-2: Product: Hauppauge HD PVR
[34414.586074] usb 1-2: Manufacturer: AMBA
[34414.586078] usb 1-2: SerialNumber: 00A45E41
[34414.785630] hdpvr 1-2:1.0: firmware version 0x15 dated Jun 17 2010
09:26:53
[34414.971089] ir-kbd-i2c 0-0071: IR for HDPVR is known to cause
problems during recording, use enable_hdpvr modparam to enable
[34415.003778] hdpvr 1-2:1.0: device now attached to video0
[35559.342242] perf: interrupt took too long (2503 > 2500), lowering
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 79750
[41951.339994] firewire_core 0000:03:05.0: giving up on node ffc0:
reading config rom failed: bus reset
[41951.340301] firewire_core 0000:03:05.0: created device fw0: GUID
00080008000802e5, S400

and now plugreport sees something:

Host Adapter 0
==============

Node 0 GUID 0x00080008000802e5
------------------------------
libiec61883 error: error reading oMPR
libiec61883 error: error reading iMPR

and there is now something at /dev/fw0:

crw------- 1 root root 240, 0 Jul  4 09:46 /dev/fw0

but 6200ch still fails the same way:

$ 6200ch -v -v -g 00080008000802e5 2
couldn't set port: Invalid argument

I don't know about that 'S400' at the end of the dmesg display, or how
to alter the vendor id.

Thanks in advance for any further troubleshooting clues.
