That worked. I did get some weird message about the revert failing, but  it
seemed to make changes related to  audiooutputbase.

At his point my version went from 59 to 60 and I have 5.1 on HDMI.  If I
change to another device list ALSA Default, the Digital Audio Capabilities
gets grayed out.  However, if I change back to my HDMI, it shows those
capabilities back and I can select all 4 Digital audio Capabilities and 5.1
or 7.1.

So the problem was solved.
