yep, those you sugested. and also the TBS.
the 6981 drivers have been in the kernel for a number of years and have been rock solid, apart from in centos8 where it just doesn't . as i'm sure you've seen in my other responses, various combinations on centos7 work. same kernel in centos8 and it'll fail. 
seems to be a specific issue though. I've since found my old USB PCTV 292e DVB-T2 tuner which works fine so hopefully that eliminates a fundamental issue. 

bug report raised with centos the other day, although need to retest the 292e to get some further info to help the bug report.
