Since Mike also has now reported that mythtv-setup was unable to do a
schema upgrade after he fixed the user and grants problem manually, it
would appear to be a much bigger problem.

Personally, I moved to MariaDB a long time ago when MySQL changed from
using the readline library to editline and screwed up my ability to
use the command line history properly.  I think MariaDB is now the
better target for MythTV as it seems more stable.  So it would be a
good idea if whoever is in control of the distro packages switched
their setup so that they install MariaDB and permit the use of MySQL
rather than the other way around as at present.
