Nope, you cannot use devinput if your are going to blast, it's an
input-only driver. The default driver (which has a silly name) is
probably what you want.

As I said earlier, it's probably driver  = default. The device is then
usually /dev/lirc0.

lirc-setup has had a nasty debian packaging bug making it crash directly
when invoked. It's fixed in Debian, but Ubuntu which lags behind might
still be affected. There is a workaround in an Ubuntu bug[1].
