A couple of things you can do is set the number of days to delete to more than a couple of days. If you set the date long enough, you could check the deleted group once a week to see what has been deleted.

Also you could do a shell script that would give you a list of deleted shows every day. With this you could then go and undelete them manually.  

You could also set mythtv to ONLY delete when space is needed.


You could also set up a separate backend for them. This may be the closest to what you want.
