[mythtv-users] Hdmi audio out delay during start of playback

I have been using mythtv for a while now, mostly using spdif audio, but
with a motherboard / cup upgrade I've been forced to use HDMI out.
This mostly works fine, except for the an annoying delay of about 1 or 2
second at start of playback.
Can anyone suggest some things to resolve or find the cause?
I'm using mythtv 30 on ubuntu x64, using nvidia video card.
