I made a directory in /dev calle rom and tried to move sr0 into it, does
the following shed any light on my problem:
 daryl at trieli:/dev$ sudo cat sr0
cat: sr0: No medium found
daryl at trieli:/dev$ ls -al sr0
brwxrwxr-x+ 1 root cdrom 11, 0 Jun  6 11:46 sr0
daryl at trieli:/dev$
