[mythtv-users] mythfrontend on Nvidia Shield plays loud audio screeching upon watching livetv or recording

I did not want to hijack the other thread related to the shield, so I'm starting a new one related to an issue I'm experiencing.  I got a shield for christmas and switched over to it as my frontend, replaced an old Zotag ION+mythbuntu.  I'm happily surprised with mythfrontend running on the shield, I tell everyone that buying the shield was the best decision I ever made; mapping the keys was a bit cumbersome since that part was usually done for me, but the one thing which is really bothering me is when I start to watch a recorded program (or live tv), the audio plays this terribly loud strange distortion noise out the L and R speakers of my stereo, not the actual audio of the recording... I am always surprised by it and jump out of my seat and stop the recording...  I found that if I pause/play the recording, the distortion stops and plays the normal 5.1 audio for the rest of that recording; it is only messed up at the start of the recording and needs to be manually addressed.  I can reproduce this consistently.  I am using the audio passthrough to my surround sound and followed all the steps needed on the wiki for setting that up in android tv... Does anyone else experience this?  Tuner is HDhomerun, backend is v29.1, frontend is the pre-built mythfrontend-20181124-arm64-v30-Pre-983-gca71c59e61a.apk.  Surround sound is an old Panasonic 5.1 SA-HT05, TV is a Sony X850E.  I played around with some of the digital audio capabilities within the frontend settings and it appears to be related to enabling Dolby Digital, which I need enabled to get the 5.1.  I also enable DTS but toggling that did not seem to make a difference.  I do have an optical cable coming out from my Sony TV into to my Panasonic receiver.
