That's exactly it - the sun. The blinking stopped when the sun went down and 
restarted when the sun came up today.

I found the spot where the receiver element is and covered it with a cloth and 
the flashing stops.

I've heard of the sun being an issue, but in the 13 years of my MythTV box in 
this apartment I've never had it trigger, even under similar conditions where 
I leave the blinds open and block the direct sun with a towel. Though the 
receiver faces away from the sun it must be catching something. Now the 
interesting question will be when it stops being affected as the sun rises 
higher after the winter solstice.
