I have the capability, but perhaps not the time. I could find exactly which kernel revision it broke in and go through the arduous process of building each bisected revision once I do (it's a meager Q9650, the system is quite old), but it may take me a while. I could even try my hat at getting a patch out (might as well if I'm going that far), I just don't like the idea of being stuck on 4.17 forever.  If it's true that this is a hardware specific issue, it may be a 2 months to a year before a more mainstream distro picks up this kernel and someone who has this hardware puts together that the new kernel is what breaks things and chimes in.
