Thanks for spotting that. Yes, I suppose it is the obvious problem, but
it's not because my upgrade didn't complete. mythtv-frontend and
mythtv-backend are identical versions right down to the GIT commit number:
mythtv-frontend-29.1-17.19.20180510.g0849e99596.fc27.x86_64
mythtv-backend-29.1-17.19.20180510.g0849e99596.fc27.x86_64
(Yes, I went ahead and upgraded the system to F27 hoping that would
straighten things out but it is still the same issue).
I also checked for any old versions of libraries that could be getting
loaded and there aren't any (also verified by running "ldd" on the
mythbackend and mythfrontend binaries). I cannot explain why there is a
protocol mismatch.
Unfortunately I also noticed that I am getting the same "running as a
slave backend" problem reported in a thread starting on May 17 from
http://lists.mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-users/2018-May/396263.html . This
thread was never resolved but seems to suggest that I have to have IPv6
working?? (I have it completely disabled on my systems because I have not
ever needed it and it can be tricky to get it configured correctly).
I think I am in a really bad mess here, I have no idea how to get myself
out. I am considering doing a database dump, then completely removing all
the mythtv packages and reinstalling everything.
