fwiw, my centos7.5 VM with epel&nux repos is working now. no test repos needed. Not sure if i'll rebuild my primary FE back onto centos, but the debian install with source mythtv seems to be running well. At least that distro is the similar to my rPi's; prefer to work with one distro than many but horses for courses...
