For what it's worth, I switched back to mythfrontend from Kodi because
Kodi's UI is constantly changing and I can't get the family used to the
latest version.  Since I use my Frontend to watch recorded and live TV
only, mythfrontend is ideal for us. I use the Mythbuntu 28.21 theme.

In my family room I have a 60" TV and A/V receiver that collects all the
inputs like BD player, Roku, Mythtv-FE, and Nintendo. Neither of these
devices can do all of what the others do, mostly because of copyrights.
I wouldn't mind moving Mythtv FE from a NUC PC to a Raspberry PI3, but
only once the currently one dies.  The BD player is not used due to the
increased use of streaming on Roku.  Nintendo is rarely uses since the
kids aren't kids anymore.  So until Roku can run a real mythtv-frontend
for MPEG2 OTA TV recordings, I'm using multiple devices.
