Check temperature of the processor cores. I had a similar problem a few years ago on a Core 2 Quad ( 2007 vintage) 
And found the the cpu having problems was overheating.

I had to replace the processor on it, as it was unreliable. (Actually replaced mother board and processor due to its age.
