For those with interlaced content, and are sufficiently
discerning, there is nothing to compare to MCDI(*)(**).
Which requires either dedicated hardware (in, and
supported, by the NVIDIA VDPAU support in MythTV),
or a very very powerful CPU. In theory recent AMD
and Intel VPUs(***) can also support MCDI, but there
is no support in MythTV to use those alternative GPU
capabilities.

There is no shortage of individuals who would like to
see the MythTV codes be improved to support these
alternative VPU capabilities. Those who do can, and
have resources, could make a real difference to the
project by either starting to do the coding themselves,
or find someone to pay to do the work [and if you
pursue either, you likely should let others know so
they do not duplicate work].

(*) MCDI = Motion Compensated De-Interlacing.

(**) Some people do not have interlaced content, or
their TV is too small to see artifacts, or their TV
sufficiently muddies all content to hide artifacts, or
their mind is fortunately slow enough to not see the
artifacts, or they are willing to not see the artifacts
because they are willing to make the trade-off of
cheap for quality.

(***) VPU = Video Processing Unit, which is usually
in the GPU packaging with dedicated hardware to
perform various post processing.
