Ah. I wondered where that came from. Pity the wiki is TBD on my setup,
with separate FE and BE.

Is there some value then in disabling mythwelcome? How would I do that?

I think my problem was due to a change in either mythshutdown or the
kernel in Ubuntu 16.04. The wake-up time was not being updated properly
at all - it had nothing to do with UTC, that was a coincidence and a red
herring. Thanks for the link
