Maybe unrelated... but.... I get issues with that sort of table name 
when mysql tmp disk space runs out.
My tmpdir in /etc/mysql/my.cnf was pointing to /tmp

[root at mythtv ~]# grep tmpdir /etc/mysql/my.cnf
tmpdir        = /tmp

I pointed it at
tmpdir        = /myth/tmp/

That resolved the issue... until /myth mount point gets low :-)
