I suggest go into mythtv-setup on the backend and check the main 
settings. The IP address setup has changed since 0.28. There is a new 
way to select the master backend and a new setting to allow connections 
from all networks. I think the problem may be somewhere in there. Make 
sure all of those are set correctly.
