I run linux on my "desktop" and use that as a backup server for all of 
my machines (separate drives).  I also run Windows in a VM on linux for 
the few applications that are Windows only, which would avoid your 
Windows 10 reboot issue.  I use samba shares so Windows can access the 
linux (host) file system.
